Birmingham Muslims to pray for King Charles at coronation celebrations

Mosques across the UK including Birmingham, will see Muslims praying for King Charles in celebration of this weekend’s grand coronation. The celebrations will be led by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, one of the ‘oldest established Muslim communities in the UK’, where Muslims will pray, share food and enjoy fun activities from May 6-8. This isn’t the first time Muslims have paid homage to a monarch. In 1902 the founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community offered special thanks and prayers during the Coronation of HM King Edward VII. The Darul Barakaat Mosque in Bordesley Green will be hosting their celebration on May 7, 12-3pm. Special visitors include the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Maureen Cornish and West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster. The Mosque will also make special donations to local foodbanks as part of The Big Help Out campaign on May 8.

Meanwhile buses across London will feature celebratory banners saying ‘Congratulations Your Majesty!’ with the Coronation and Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK logos. His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Head of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim community, emphasised the the importance of religious freedom which he praised King Charles for supporting. He said: “I pray that the occasion of His Majesty’s Coronation proves not only a means of bringing people of different nations together but also a means of fostering a spirit of trust and mutual understanding in society and between nations. “It is my prayer that may God Almighty through His Grace and Beneficence, keep our honoured King safe and in good health. May his reign be one of peace and prosperity for the world, and may the attributes of justice, tolerance and freedom of belief forever remain the guiding principles of the British Monarchy. Ameen”

Syed Imtiaz Ahmed, Regional President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Midlands, said: “We are sharing the joy of the nation on this historic day and are delighted to express our happiness and gratitude to God. We are inviting our friends and neighbours to join in the celebrations with us, and pray that God grants His Majesty King Charles III a long life and that we can continue to live in peace under his reign.”
