Cheam’s Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth visit those in need across south London

Volunteers from a Cheam youth organisation have reached out to those less fortunate these holidays by visiting hospitals and care homes in south London.

More than 200 members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) visited 500 residents and gave out flowers, gifts and cards, and organised homeless feeding sessions as well as a tree planting day.

Food packets were distributed on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with another 500 to be given out on New Year’s Day and 10,000 trees will be planted in Epsom’s Langley Vale Wood.

Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Farukh Arshad said: “Islam urges every person to partake in charitable giving, and that even an act of kindness towards another is charity.

“AMYA has and continues to instil young people with a sense of civil responsibility and a desire to promote harmony within our local communities.

“Our members have enjoyed living in Sutton Council for decades and so any opportunity to help our local community is a much welcomed one.”

Sutton Council’s youth organisation also visited care homes and handed out chocolates and greeting cards to the elderly on December 24.

More than 50 volunteers will be sweeping and litter picking after leaving their early morning prayers on January 1 at the Baitul Ehsan Mosque in Willow Lane.
