Hundreds of people gather for interfaith event at St John’s College, Cambridge
Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA), Hertfordshire, organised an interfaith event at St John’s College, Cambridge, entitled, “Is there a need for God/religion in the 21st Century?”
The event was attended by hundreds of people of various faiths and ethnic backgrounds.
The event featured talks from a variety of faith speakers including Sutapa Das. representing Hinduism, Inderpreet Kaur. representing Sikhism, Reverend Alex Clare Young. representing Christianity. and a keynote speech by Dr Umar Nasser, representing Islam.
The event also featured a question and answer session allowing participants to ask the distinguished panellists questions about God, faith, and religion.
The purpose of the event was to promote interfaith harmony and build a feeling of mutual understanding and create peace within Cambridge and the event was open to all members of the public for free.
This is the first in a series of events that Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association are looking to organise at the University of Cambridge on theology, religious discussion and interfaith dialogue.
Saeed Nazir, the regional youth leader for AMYA, said: “I would like to thank everyone who attended the interfaith event.
“Only by engaging with each other are we able to dismantle those stereotypes and build understanding and trust to replace ignorance with knowledge and prejudice with friendship.”
