Young Muslim volunteers spend Christmas Day ‘spreading smiles’ to over 100 care home residents

Free ‘taxi service’ laid on by youth group so that residents could enjoy Christmas Day among friends

Young Muslims spent Christmas Day helping care home residents get to community centre venues for a special festive lunch.

Around 25 members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) Huddersfield chapter gave free lifts to residents to Milnsbridge Village Hall and the Jubilee Centre in Paddock.

The Muslim group has been running the service for the past eight years.

Members also visited local hospitals including Calderdale Royal Hospital and Pinderfields in Wakefield to hand out toys and chocolates to children and nursing staff.

Over 100 members of the AMYA Yorkshire have also been visiting hospices and care homes over the Christmas period.

They handed out over 170 gifts including flowers, fruit, chocolate and cards.

Young Muslims also donated 150kg of food to local food banks and over 100 food packets were distributed to homeless people in Huddersfield and in Sheffield.
